HOT CHILLIES BOOST MEMORY
More good news for both chilli lovers and those not yet converted to the exciting world of chillies. The latest research shows that a diet rich in chillies boosts the brain’s function and improves memory and learning thanks to a compound called apigenin..
Apigenin belongs to a group of compounds called flavonoids and has long been shown to possess remarkable anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-carcinogenic properties. Now, according to Brazilian scientists, apigenin has the potential to treat diseases such as schizophrenia, depression, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
The study, in Advances in Regenerative Biology, is the first to show a direct positive effect on human cells. Laboratory tests show that human cells treated with apigenin become neurons after 25 days and make strong, sophisticated connections. These connections are crucial for efficient brain function, memory consolidation and learning.
Now it all makes sense. It explains why all the chilli headz are so intellectual. Although this is just a hypothesis at this point in time, we now have good reason to believe that Albert Einstein was a chilli head too. How else would one explain all that genius without the chilli apigenin factor?
