We're now accepting Goodmoney
Goodmoney CIC is a Brighton based social enterprise. Our vision is an ethical financial services brand that provides alternative ways of exchanging value within the community.
We’ve started by creating a new gift voucher that links-up independent local businesses to create a more exciting choice of gifts and experiences than high street gift vouchers. Helping independent local businesses get a larger share of the estimated £5 billion spent in the UK each year on gift vouchers and gift cards
As well as redirecting spending into the local economy, the gift voucher is also helping us build a network of local businesses so we can develop future services.
We’ve built a mobile app that will enable merchants to scan the barcode on the back of each gift voucher to confirm it’s genuine and valid. The merchant will then be able to enter the PIN from the scratch panel to claim payment.
Our next step is to link Cyclos, the open source banking platform, to our mobile app. This will allow merchants to claim payment instantly into their Goodmoney account and spend the money instantly with other local businesses in the Goodmoney network.
The Cyclos platform can process transactions for multiple electronic currencies online, via text messages and with contactless smart cards and mobile phones. We’ll use it to introduce new ways of exchanging value in the local community, such as community issued interest-free credit and time credits that reward volunteers with access to excess capacity in sports, leisure, cultural, training and leisure institutions.
Goodmoney CIC is a social enterprise. All assets owned by Goodmoney CIC are covered by an asset-lock, legally protecting them for the benefit of the community.
This means that while we aim to make a reasonable profit so that we don’t need to rely on public money, that profit is guaranteed to go towards achieving the organisation’s goals.
